Due to the health and safety risks posed by the pandemic, we have canceled the in-person Lyle's Myles Run/Walk for 2020. Although the race is canceled this year, the work of our beneficiary charities in providing HIV/AIDS relief, education, and prevention is as important as ever. The novel coronavirus has made life harder for everyone, but particularly those living with HIV/AIDS and their loved ones. The cost of HIV/AIDS treatment can hinder survivors' ability to achieve financial security, making unexpected job losses more difficult to navigate. The need for food pantries like Martha's Pantry has never been greater. The challenge of ensuring continuity of well-care and reducing risk of COVID-19 infection among immunocompromised people highlight the need for organizations like the Cascade AIDS Project. And in spite of the many challenges we face in the US, we are reminded of the threat faced by developing countries with limited public health services and infrastructure like those served by Global Partners for Development. While the pandemic has justifiably captured our attention and national headlines, the need for the non-profits like those Lyle's Myles supports has only increased. That's why I am appealing to you to "sleepwalk" with Lyle's Myles this summer and give in whatever amount you are able to support our beneficiary charities or to donate directly to those charities in whatever amount and proportion you wish through the organization-specific "Donate" buttons on our race page.
We extend a special thanks to our 2020 Lyle's Myles sponsors, Northwest Scaffold Service and Biggs Insurance who provided their financial support in spite of not having an in-person event this year and Vancouver Metro Sunset Rotary Club for their work planning, organizing, and then adapting Lyle's Myles 2020.
Wishing you health, hope, and good humor during this challenging time,
Co-organizer, Lyle's Myles
